Dr. Pam Roe Honored by Nemertean Society

Nemertean Society
Dr. Pam Roe was honored at the 7th International Conference on Nemertean Biology held in Santa Barbara, CA JUne 29-July 3, 2009. The Conference and the Conference Volume were dedicated to Dr. Roe for her tireless work on nemertean biology. Dr. Roe was pleasaaantly surprised by a collection of pictures from her years at CSU Stanislaus. When asked to send pictures, all of the deparment's pictures of Dr. Roe show her either with students or food. We are to assume that since there are more pictures of her with students that they take priority over food.

Dr. Patrick Kelly receives Recovery Champion Award

Dr. Patrick Kelly Riparian brush rabbit
Dr. Patrick Kelly is a Recovery Champion 2008 from the US Fish & Wildlife Service for his work in conserving riparian brush rabbits.  His leadership in recovering this species is particularly notable in that after the 1997 Central Valley floods there was concern that riparian brush rabbits no longer existed. Dr. Kelly has been applauded for his “watchful eye, passionate commitment, scrupulous focus and leadership.”  His work has included capturing animals for a propagation program, health-checking the young, radio-collaring and tagging, releasing into the wild, and then monitoring the rabbits for survival, healthy reproduction, and habitat use.  Dr. Kelly has introduced riparian brush rabbits onto the San Joaquin National Wildlife Refuge and adjacent private land. He has saved the riparian brush rabbit from the brink of extinction and transported it to the road to recovery.
